Projects

This is a collection of projects I have worked on during my time at university, to demonstrate the skills I have developed and how each project was undertaken.

Consultancy project for a client

My most recent project I undertook was for my 'Business Strategy and Consultancy' module. This involved working in groups to produce a piece of research and suggested courses of action for a live client. The group I was in worked for a client in Devon who had a wedding and consultancy business. Our group conducted competitor research and analysis for the client, as well as producing some individual pieces of work. I took on the task of analysing the client's social media presence, and researching how competitors in the industry and local area were managing their social media and content. I then created a spreadsheet that documented my findings, along with an analysis document to highlight the key findings and the potential courses of action the client could look to take. I really enjoyed this part of the project, as I have a keen interest in social media and marketing, so this gave me an opportunity to use my skills and knowledge of social media in particular, and apply them to a live project.

The research that our group conducted initially was taken into account when the client created a new website, and it was great to see some of our suggestions implemented in the new website.  The project was a real learning curve - I learnt about listening effectively to a client, taking into account the feasibility of ideas that I was putting forward, and how to present findings and research in an effective and concise manner.

Event planning - 12 hour danceathon

In my second year of my degree, I undertook a practical events module in which we were required to work in groups in order to plan and deliver an event of our choice.  I was in a group with four other members of my cohort and we decided to create a 12-hour danceathon in aid of a local charity. The process of planning the event included writing a comprehensive Event Management Plan, which covered every aspect of the event, from budgeting, to theming, to health and safety, to marketing and lots more. It was a very educational exercise to write the EMP, as every detail had to be accounted for and addressed accordingly.

The event was a great success, and it was very rewarding to see people enjoying the event we had created, and we received some very positive feedback. I learnt a great deal about how much planning and preparation is required in order to deliver a successful event, but it was a very enjoyable experience.

Content writing - Schools Liaison Guide

Part of my role as the Schools Liaison intern during my placement year was to build and maintain relationships with schools in order to promote the college I was working at, and to inform the schools about what our team could offer. The Schools Liaison team ran tours of the college, assemblies, mock interview sessions, careers fairs, taster days and lots more, but we didn't have a publication that we could send to schools to explain everything that we offered. I suggested that a publication would be a useful tool to have when building relationships with the schools, so that they could better understand what we could offer their students, especially those who were going to be applying to colleges in the near future.

I was lucky enough to be given the opportunity to write the content for the new Schools Liaison Guide, which explained what we offered, and how we could help secondary school students when applying to college. I then worked with a member of the Marketing team who created the design for the publication, and the finished product was a clear and concise guide that could be sent out to schools to show our offering.

I thoroughly enjoyed creating this publication, and it was very rewarding to see the finished product.
